Yesterday, I was reminded that many of us find work-a-rounds to ever viewing ourselves in natural light. If we’ve become accustomed to viewing ourselves in the artificial, when we finally do see ourselves again for the first time it can be unexpected how upset we can become.
What’s underneath might be so foreign because we were so busy trying to make the artificial the only layer to our being.
What is the artificial? It’s deeper than makeup( which is a beautiful ritual, sometimes very necessary for survival, and a wonderful creative outlet) or hair, or clothes. The artificial is the veneer that we can create when we are hurt and need to believe something is better than it is.
Its creation helps our happiness. Sometimes, happiness is very fleeting. The veneer helps us deal with sometimes horrible, very depressing, and even abusive situations. It holds us together while we try and let some happiness into our lives; because we say, “I know this is a veneer, but I deserve a little bit of happiness in this situation so it’s staying on.”
But the problem is it’s a cover, one that eventually will need to be replaced due to wear. And when you have it on, you aren’t able to breathe.
It’s a pretty, decorative way to suffocate yourself.
Natural light is the solution. One day you will feel strong again and you’ll rip off the veneer and you’ll see that what you’ve been trying to cover and hide isn’t shameful, ugly, or unworthy.
The natural light will show you that it’s beautiful and needs to be shared. That no matter what opinion others have of your natural light state, it’s all pain being regurgitated to make more pain. You don’t need to be a part of it.
See yourself in your natural light state and embrace them. They’ve been waiting for you and want your love and both of you will bask in it.
In Universal Love,
Karen
